PROFILE OF VASAN CHARITABLE TRUST

Vasan Charitable Trust (VCT) is a registered public charitable trust was founded in 1968 by Mr.T.S.Srinivasan and with;

  • Mr.T.S.Srinivasan,
  • Smt.Pattammal,
  • Sri.S.Balasubramanian and
  • Mrs.Saroja Balasubramanian,

as Trustees.

Mr.T.S.Srinivasan, Smt.Pattammal and Mr. S.Balasubramanian passed away in the year 1969, 1995 and 2014 respectively and now ;

  • Mrs.Saroja Balasubramanian
  • Mr.B.Srinivasan and
  • Mr.M.V.Kumar

are Trustees with Mr.B.Srinivasan as ‘Managing Trustee’.

VCT’s main object is for advancement of knowledge and education for the relief of the poor, medical relief and advancement of such other objects of general public utility involving the carrying out of any activity not for profit, without any distinction of caste or creed.

In addition to carrying normal activities of the Trust, Trust undertakes special relief work through general public contribution and with that of ‘Vikatan Readers’, in particular.

In 2003, special relief work was carried in the drought hit (delta) villages in Tamil Nadu, with contribution of Vikatan readers of about Rs.74 lakhs, for a period of 6 months.

In 2012, moved by devastation caused by ‘Thane Cyclone’ with the support of our good hearted Vikatan readers and philanthropists, contributing 215 Lakhs we carried out, the relief work in some villages of Cuddalore and Pondicherry area, affected by this ‘Thane cyclone’.

In 2016, with the disaster caused by unprecedented rains after 100 years at Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and cuddalore districts, again with the support of our Vikatan readers and philanthropists, Vikatan is carrying out relief operations in selected areas. Further to mitigate the degree of such hardship in future, as a long term measure, Vikatan has contributed 100 lakhs to the Vasan Charitable Trust, to ease the encroachment on water bodies/water ways and to find solution for maintaining all water bodies including rivers and lakes of Tamil Nadu with the support of experts in the field. And again with the support of our readers and well wishers, contributing 125 lakhs we carried out relief material distributions in the suburbs of Chennai district and restoring water bodies in Salamangalam village and Karasangal Village of Kanchipuram District.

In 2017, Actor and Philanthropist, Mr.Raghava Lawrence’s contribution of 100 lakhs has helped us to intervene many charity activities, such as constructing toilets in government schools, scholarships and medical aid for the needy. In the same consecutive year, GRT jewelers’ contribution of 100 Lakhs has resulted in construction of new class rooms, toilets and provision of education aids for the selected government schools in Tamil Nadu.

In 2018, special relief interventions were carried out in the Delta region of Tamil Nadu which was devastated due to the disaster caused by Cyclone ‘Gaja’. These activities is been carried out with Vikatan’s Contribution of 10 lakhs along with the Vikatan readers contribution of 133 lakhs.

Apart from such relief interventions, Scholarships and Medical aid is been given regularly to the meritorious and deserving candidates periodically.
