Project Corona Relief-2020

Corona Relief project is a CSR initiative of Vikatan group of companies which aims to support stranded victims of Corona Lock Down and the pro effects of this pandemic illness. This initiative was kick started on 10/04/2020 with the initial contribution of Rs.10 Lakhs from Vikatan group, Simultaneously 10 per cent contribution from the sale of magazines and digital subscriptions in the month of April 2020. Readers are supporting in terms of contributing funds for this initiative. Our project corona relief was carried out in 3 phases according to the lockdown imposed. The project mainly focused on non-ration card holders, nomadic tribal communities, destitute homes and migrants all over Tamil Nadu who were affected during COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown.

Phases in chart

Phase I - Distribution of Dry ration A grocery kit worth Rs.1800.00 comprising Rice, Dal, Oil, Wheat Flour, Sanitary napkins and Spices which addressed their need for 3 months has been distributed to 787 families and 3 destitute homes. To an extent, few communities were provided with ration cards by lobbying Tamil Nadu’s department of civil supplies and consumer protection.

Phase II - Provision of educational aid for the children of families who lost their livelihood An educational aid of Rs.5.15 lakhs has been dispersed to 16 deserving children of families who lost their breadwinners and job due to Covid. The support will be carried out until they complete their higher education.

Phase III - Rehabilitation of individuals whose livelihood was affected An initial investment was provided to the individuals such as hawkers and street vendors whose job was badly affected due to the COVID 19 pandemic. A total of 1086 individuals have benefited from this initiative who are independent now. The uniqueness of this initiative is we had stopped the usury interest burden of these poor vendors.
